we all remember the story in luke 22:44 where in jesus in agonizing prayer begins to sweat blood.

remember the extremely rare medical condition where a person being tortured can sweat blood that was cited as proof that the bible was true and how this should deepen our appreciation for the sacrifice of jesus?

well the footnote in the reference bible reveals that the earliest and best manuscripts of the nt do not have verses 43&44.

"his sweat fell down like drops of blood while He was praying," First off, I never read this to mean he was bleeding, since it clearly says his SWEAT fell, not blood...but LIKE blood, which I take to mean like sticky large blobs rather than normal perspiration like dew....

second as to Jesus wife....my brother brought up something interesting... we always ASSUME that it is JOHN who is calling himself THE DISCIPLE whom Jesus LOVED.... but it never says this... could this really be referring to MARY, Jesus' Wife??

When Jesus is on the cross giving his Mother to THE DISCIPLE whom Jesus LOVED, there is NO other males present in any other gospel account.....hmmmm?

Josephus-Luke connection

i found this online article interesting.

an additional point not in the article below is that josephus claimed to have been a remarkable boy who at 14 sat and impressed the jewish teachers, "luke" just one upped his jesus to do the same at 12. i think the author of luke utilized the josephus works to historize the jesus story.

this meshes well with the contention of the book ---THE JESUS MYSTERIES -by-Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy--- which gives evidence showing that Jesus never existed [see www.jesusneverexisted.com] but was the invention of a philosophical/pagan mystery school seeking to make a jewish version of the ancient pagan mysteries which all have a rather similar form.... godman born of a virgin or unnatural union of a god and a woman, who lives as a human teaching his followers the ways of salvation and dying some sort of sacrificial death.

he even proves all his points by cherry picking known modern scholars who will back him up!

Ha... true? what does that mean, I wonder...after all, I cannot find anyone who can give solid evidence that Jesus even existed beyond some scholarly opinions and lots of people who have accepted it without much questioning.

I do not believe Jesus was God, I do not believe Jesus was Human.... I do not beileve Jesus was more than a character in a book and that I do out of honest examination of every bit of evidence I have found to date and if there is a god who damns people for being honest.... then I would not serve such a being anyway. F him!

as to the trinity debate: you would think that if it really mattered the bible would be crystal clear about it... its not like JWs invented the non-trinitarian point of view...it goes back before Arius to the foundation of recorded christian history...and there have always been groups around who thought the trinity a silly idea without biblical foundations.

13+ years out of JWs and I still find nothing compelling in the bible to show that Jesus was seen as God by the authors, certainly no one in the bible explicitly teaches such an absurd doctrine to anyone else in the bible.

Demons

another post to add to my list of things i wanted to ask ex jw's but never had the chance.. have you ever had any unexplainable experiences or encounters with something paranormal and been told by jw elders that 'it must be the demons' literally, or 'we'll pray to jehovah for help' due to some 'demonic' thing you are going through, being tormented or whatever, if so, what do you put it down to?

do you subscribe to a belief of angels & demons?

do you believe these beings, if they exist can interfere in our day to day lives or do you dismiss anything 'paranormal' as being in the head of the person who thinks it happened to them?.

I have encountered invisible entities in lucid dreams which seem like real people...and one of them has manifested itself in the waking world at least twice.

the first time, I was to the point of becoming an absolute atheistic materialist, thought I had it all figured out...and suddenly something vanished right before my eyes in one room and turned up outside that room and down the hallway... no explanations, no visions, no voices...

the second time, I was interviewing for a new job which required a typing test... something/one grabbed the inside of my hands and refused to let me type. They gave me a second chance a few days later and it did it again, but this time, I focused and meditated and regained control of my hands and typed the 2nd paragraph perfectly...but after tallying the mistakes from the first paragraph they said I failed again, and that I could try again another time...but I told them, I dont know who or why, but I know my destiny is not along this line.... within a week I got a job which I have been with for 4 years now, and is ten times better than the other one in all ways.

My feeling is that these are not demons or angels, but people like ourselves who are just not part of this realm at the moment.. some may come back some may never desire to play human...but ultimately they are just other beings.

In the summer time, I found a wasp struggling in the pool... I scooped it out of the pool and it flew away.... I feel like I was that wasp and someone/thing saw me struggling and decided to lend a hand... and like that wasp, I may find a time when I am puzzled that no futher help is forth coming... after all I never followed that wasp and I am sure other beings have better things to do then to follow me around.

have you ever wondered whether we are too easy to believe what people say they are?

it seems that sometimes we get posters that masquerade as down and out, searching, or very sincere----when, in fact, they are none of these things.

i know we want to believe that people are not dishonest or callous----but----i wonder if we should be more aware than ever before that there are persons that will always try to play on our trust.

more cynical now I think.... I have come to realize that humans are liars by nature which is part of their defensive stradegies... and that is not a put down...because there are few people who want to be around those who always tell the truth. I find that its safe to be skeptical but to work with what is called the Iron rule... you accept what someone says the first time and if true you continue...but if false you do not trust them the second time without better evidence.

every move is a gamble...cant avoid that.

i feel as if my life is coming towards some sort of apocalypse.... its been a long culmination of events, as apocalypses are...9 years in the works.... but somehow i feel good about coming to this point in my life.

as a word of advise

I am not married now, but it had nothing to do with JWs. It had to do with allowing my wife to see to much of the real me. I could have continued pretending and trying to be what she fantasized I should be, but as I last said, I am not that dishonest... so I let slip my true self one time too many and now I am divorced... but I am not unhappy. I think I would have been more unhappy trying to maintain the lie than I am living the truth of who I am... the world did not end and my sex life did not end either. I now live with two women (^_^) and while things are not as I desire them to be at all times, at least they understand the real me and have not left me over it.

when I first woke from the BORG trance, my first thought was to continue going to the meetings and pretend so as to not cause too many waves... my wife at the time had a lot of family in and we did not want to lose contact with them over a religion... but the timing was against me. I had been assigned to do a theocratic minstry school talk #4 and I realized that I could not get up and lie infront of an audiance... I think my family DNA is lacking in a dishonesty gene... always a nusance in such situations... BTW nothing teachings you how to lie more than getting married...but thats for another story.

My then wife as able to carry on the charade for a while, which I learned was not so hard for her, she had been doing that from before we started dating....nearly 2 years to be precise and I never knew until I was ready to exit... and then I was glad that she had deceived me... I would not have married her had I known her true apostate thoughts (^_^)

Exactly what point is God trying to prove?

lets see-- that his ways are best? how has he shown that? after all he could not put together Israel as a show peice that demonstrated that people living under his ways were better than anyone else.

that NO human government could succeed? well considering that if the bible is right and all are born slaves to sin, we have no real ability to show that we can do it without god in a fair fight...its like saying that perfect humans will be judged soley by means of how the retarded do on these tests.

That one man [supposedly Jesus] could make it through and keep his integrety? if that was the real point and test, why did not Job qualify as savior of the world? after all he proved God right and Satan wrong, no?

and if God has eternity why make humans die so quickly and have their eternity rest upon this one shot deal which for some is less than a year? seems kind of unfair.... oh, but they will be brought back in the new world and given their shot there, which again is unfair since so many who will die at armeggedon will be cheated out of a shot in a perfect world just by bad timing?
